Farewell dinner
Farewell dinner will be served in Winternitz Automatic Mills building.
The Winternitz Automatic Mills National Cultural Monument is one of the first works of Czech architect Josef Gočár. The monumental mill building on the banks of the Chrudimka River in the centre of Pardubice was designed by Gočár in 1909 for the Winternitz brothers and in 1924 he further extended the complex with a grain silo. The automatic mills were in continuous operation for more than 100 years, until 2013.
Since 2016, the mill brownfield has been undergoing a transformation into a modern cultural and social urban district thanks to the initiative of Mariana and Lukáš Smetana, and since 2019 under the umbrella of their family-run Automatic Mills Foundation. Automatické mlýny is a unique example of a partnership between the public, private and non-profit sectors. Both the Pardubice Region (Gočár Gallery) and the Statutory City of Pardubice (GAMPA, Sféra) are now involved in the transformation of the entire complex and the adjacent public spaces.
In the first phase of the redevelopment of the site, between 2019 and 2023, four buildings, the park in front of the main mill building and a new inner square will be opened to the public.
In the second stage of construction, in the period 2023-2026, three new residential and commercial buildings will be added to the complex, complemented by amenities designed by the Zette studio under the direction of architect Zdeněk Balík, who was at the origin of the whole idea of revitalising the brownfield alongside the Smetana family.
